Cambodia Sees Rat Meat Prices Soar

Attention McDonald’s: You are going to have to raise your prices, post haste!
PHNOM PENH – The price of rat meat has quadrupled in Cambodia this year as inflation has put other meat beyond the reach of poor people, officials said on Wednesday.
With consumer price inflation at 37 percent according to the latest central bank estimate, demand has pushed a kilogram of rat meat up to around 5,000 riel (69 pence) from 1,200 riel last year.
Son of a bitch! You know who I blame for this? Karl Rove.
Spicy field rat dishes with garlic thrown in have become particularly popular at a time when beef costs 20,000 riel a kg.
Ya know, I love garlic. I would brush my teeth with it if it were socially acceptable, but there is no way, now how, that I am eating garlic rat any time soon!
Officials said rats were fleeing to higher ground from flooded areas of the lower Mekong Delta, making it easier for villagers to catch them. (H/T – )
Imagine how many there will be if Gustav hits New Orleans? It’s rat-apalooza!
Yeah, I’m going to Hell.

Dude. That’s just so wrong. (But funny.)
Yeah, if given the given the choice between rat for my source of protein to other forms of protein that are really cheap (like beans), well, then I’d be a vegetarian. No rat no how.
