She Blinded Me With Magic
By Wyatt Earp | September 21, 2008
It’s always good when I can throw some Thomas Dolby quotes into a post. It’s even better when it involves David Blaine, possibly my least favorite “celebrity” of all time.
HACKENSACK, N.J. — The biggest danger for magician David Blaine when he hangs upside down above New York’s Central Park for 60 hours next week? Going blind.
That’s the analysis of Dr. Massimo Napolitano of the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. He is the chief of vascular surgery and is advising Blaine on the stunt.
Napolitano told the Bergen Record for a story Saturday that hanging upside down for a long time increases blood pressure in the head, especially in the eyes. That could lead to blindness.
The doctor doesn’t say how long the blindness could last, but he says there’s also a risk of swelling and cramps in internal organs. (H/T - CNN)
I have to admit, I am kind of rooting for the blindness. Then, maybe we’ll be spared Blaine’s ridiculous, inane stunts once and for all.

Didn’t he used to do clever magic tricks?
What’s with the stupid stunts?

Hey Wyatt
Just wanted to tell after we were discussing McCain today, Palin got a crowd of 60,000 in Florida!

Does David Blaine even qualify as a magician/illusionist? With all these stupid stunts he kind of just needs to go on David Letterman’s stupid pet tricks. But even at that, there are some of those dogs who do more clever tricks.

Ricky Jay is a magician. David Blaine is an exhibitionist.

I don’t know who I hate more, Blaine, or Cris Angel.

Someone should shoot his head with an exploding bullet, like they tried in Caddyshack II. That would be good television.
