Coup, Coup, Coup Choo, Mrs. Robinson

By Wyatt Earp | June 14, 2009

New York SenateWhat the Hell is going on in New York? Governor David Paterson and the Democrats in the Senate have been dropping the ball more times than a Detroit Lions running back. The Republican minority is claiming that they are dismissing their concerns with the wave of a hand. Nothing is getting done, and the voters of New York are not amused.

This week, things got so bad that the GOP participated in a coup, and the Democrats locked the Senate doors before hiding the keys. Seriously.

This comedy of political errors is the subject of this week’s Family Security Matters article. Here’s a taste:

Considering the recent political events occurring in upstate New York, this fictitious announcement is not completely off base:

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is an alert from the Emergency Broadcast System for residents living in the area of Albany, New York. First, we are sorry that you are forced to live so close to our knucklehead politicians. Second, according to confirmed reports, there is a noxious cloud of Insanity Gas hovering around the city and suburbs.”

“The gas, while not fatal, can dramatically heighten a person’s sense of nuttiness. For example, if Tom Cruise were affected, he would immediately divorce Katie Holmes and marry his Eyes Wide Shut script. The highest concentration of fumes seems to be centered on the State Capitol Building, and the first casualties arriving at the hospitals have been politicians.”

This announcement is obviously a gross exaggeration – like when people say that Rosie O’Donnell’s head is larger than the national debt – but it does have elements in truth. Something is going terribly wrong in Albany. So wrong, in fact, that some members of the State Senate have participated in an actual coup.

You can read the rest of the snark HERE.

This kind of crap might explain why when I stopped in Albany NY overnight while traveling from my home state to Vermont and tried using my state government ID the woman said she would pretend I hadn’t shown that — seems they charge more instead of giving a discount.

“Paris Hilton is probably working harder than the New York Senate is right now.”

So sad and how true this is, and she probably has more of a clue than they do too.

Need to change the motto from Excelsior to Pepcid… MUCH more appropriate!

Tom – Ha! “You just keep on drivin’ mister!”

Admiral – You are probably correct.

    Old NFO – Pepcid . . . or Maalox.
