By the time you read this, I may already be sliced open.
I am scheduled for Mohs surgery today at 7:30am. The surgery is for my skin cancer, which is located near my left temple. It’s an outpatient surgery, but the procedure is supposed to take most of the day. Essentially, the docs remove a layer of skin via scalpel and examine it for cancer cells under a microscope. The motion is repeated as necessary, and hopefully, they’ll fix me up without a huge chunk of my face missing.
I looked at a few before and after photos online, and they looked rather scary. Not that it matters, since a hole in my face can only improve my looks, but the important thing here is that they remove all of the cancer. The last thing I need is for it to spread.
To be honest, I am a little freaked out about the whole thing and I could use a prayer or two if you can spare one. I have post set up for the rest of the day, since I’ll probably be all doped up for a while. I’ll post an update when I can.
5pm Update: Well, the procedure was successful. All of the cancer was scraped out and they sewed me up and sent me on my way. Of course, once the local wore off, it felt – and still feels – like there is a knife in my skull. Hurts a lot. I’ll post more about it – with gory, gruesome pictures – tomorrow. I can’t really do anything for two days, so right now I’m sitting around trying to recover.

Let the doctors do their thing and let the big man upstairs handle the rest.
I have a razor knife I can help get that stuff if the doctors miss any of it.

As a person who has undergone this twice for the same type of cancer I am sure you will be fine, Wyatt. They do great work these days and after a few months the incision will be practically invisible.

Best damn nap I ever had, No wait that was the colonoscopy. One end or the other and a good nap in between. Eat lots of turkey and pie and remember the sunscreen from now on. MUD

Prayers inbound. Good luck Wyatt — I know it won’t ease your mind but I’ve had three relatives go through this procedure, and all came through with flying colors and (so far) no recurrence of the cancer, including one gent who is now 89. Stay well.

Ask them to use those ‘doughnut hole cutters’. Ask them to to do both sides and then get the horn implants. Imagine the impact in the interrogation room when you tell them..confess or Go To Hell! Hope I got a chuckle:)

With you buddy. This morning in the empty engine bay of an F-16, I found myself wondering how things were going.
Sorry I haven’t been keeping up. New job in a new place and the Missus back in Kansas.
Take it easy and enjoy those who will do the waiting hand and foot. I know how ya feel! My large exit incision is still sore on occasion. The percosettes after the surgery were rather nice, I have to admit.
