Shooting From The Hip

By Wyatt Earp | December 1, 2009

I wonder if she needs a partner?

I wonder if she needs a partner?

Yesterday was my first day back to work since the surgery. I took three sick days after the procedure because I was battling dizzy spells. I should have stayed in bed.

I had to wake up a half hour earlier than usual, because the bandage dance takes a lot of time. I have to change the bandages, clean the wound, replace the bandages and not get it wet when I take a shower. It’s a joy. I figure I should have a system down by Wednesday – the day the stitches come out.

Any hoo, I came into work and answered about 200 questions from co-workers. “Hey, what happened to you?” was the most popular inanity. After explaining my situation to the first five people, I decided to make up stories to everyone else:

* “Paper cut. I lost four quarts of blood.”
* “Mental note: Never try to shave with a Psychedelic Furs CD.”
* “I recently found out I had grown a third ear. I wanted to hide it from you guys.”

Once I dispatched the knuckleheads, I finished some paperwork, conducted a phone interview, and asked our crime scene guy to process a commercial burglary for me. I would have gladly done it, but my freakin’ head was splitting all day and I just didn’t have the strength.

All in all, it was a more productive day than I thought it would be. Today is my last day before two glorious days off. I will be spending my second day (December 3rd) with the kids because it is Julia’s 1st birthday.

You went to work without your trusty roll of duct tape.

Mrs. Crankipants – Yeah, I get the stitches out tomorrow, and hopefully, I’ll be cleared to play in tomorrow night’s hockey game. And I will definitely give her your well wishes.

Glad everything came out okay and you’re getting better.

(For the gawkers I would have put something sharp pointing out from under the bandages in the dressing.
Then when they asked what happened I would have told them…”Oh nothing, I have a hole in my head, but thats beside the point. :) )

Hope you don’t mind if I use some of your replies when I get tired of dealing with the idiocy of others at my work place. Happy Birthday to Julia!

Here is some ammo for your doctor if he gives you grief about playing hockey.

When Tony Granato was playing for the Sharks he had brain cancer. After the surgery, he asked his doctor if he could still play hockey and the doctor said, “You wear a helmet right? Then you can still play.”

Hopefully you are good to go.

Jon – My co-worlers already know I have a hole in my head. It’s where the brain would be in normal folks.

MeToo – Not a problem. Use them in good health!

Ingineer66 – Hope so. My only issue is that the helmet will be against the scar and I don’t need it opening up. Of course, after a week stitched up, it should be good to go.

Glad everything seems to be going ok.
You should have told the co-workers you had an accident while cleaning your gun; that would have really freaked them out.

Even with no-brain Wyatt you would still have twice the brain of some people I know:)

What about telling them you are covering up a zombie bite and check back with you in about an hour.

Um, ‘glad’ to hear you’re up and about… re the Sabra, the only thing she’d probably use you for would be a moving target ;-)

Take care of yourself, and might I suggest Tylenol PM (when you’re home and won’t be driving), after I had surgery the pain medicine made me sick so I took Tylenol PM and knocked myself out. It worked.
Also, tell that lovely little girl Happy Birthday! :)

BobG – And then pulled out a Nirvana CD.

    Jon – BRAIIINNNSSS!

Old NFO – But I’d die with a smile on my face.

    DL474 – Will do, thanks!

RT – Arizona Kevin thinks the doc is gonna tell me I can’t play hockey tomorrow. I hope he’s wrong.

I think AK is right…you need to heal and can’t risk infection. (Locker rooms are chock-full of nastiness.)

For the hockey, use a lot of doo rags. The ones with the sweat band. And have a solution of alcohol and water in a bottle that is very different from your water bottle. And no really good pain killers? Bummer Man. But the cut in my belly was a “tad” bigger. And the doc gave me 40 of the most wonderful little white tablets…………………oh yeah!
But seriously man, glad you’re getting back into the swing of normal life again. It is something I can relate to.
