Classic!

Bruins 2, Flyers 1 – Final, Overtime
Wow, what a game! It had everything: defense, scoring, checking, and even fisticuffs. The weather held off and although my Flyers didn’t come out on top, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. When I called home afterward, I heard Kyle shouting at the top of his lungs in excitement. The missus even got a grin when her favorite hockey player, Mark Recchi, scored the game-tying goal:
BOSTON – The Boston Bruins made the Winter Classic live up to its hype with a thrilling comeback at Fenway Park, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Marco Sturm’s overtime goal.
Mark Recchi, a former Flyer, had tied the game with 2:18 left in the third period Friday, ending goalie Michael Leighton’s shutout streak of more than 150 minutes. Then Sturm connected 1:57 into overtime on a pass from Patrice Bergeron. ()
As for my bet with Sully, I obviously lost, but I do so gracefully. I will be sending out my Philadelphia Flyers Keith Acton jersey – adorned with other autographs, including Simon Gagne and Jeremy Roenick, to him as soon as he sends me his mailing address. Congratulations Sully . . . I hate you. Heh.

It was a game that had my attention from beginning to end. It was nice to see the Flyers turn around the past month to now play so well. I’m disappointed that they lost, but it is the type of loss where you really can’t complain. The defense played well, there was a lot of hard work on the ice from both sides, and the crowd was into it. (Now, as for James Taylor playing a lullaby version of the Star Spangled Banner…)
I really enjoyed it. (The Verizon commercial was my favorite.)

RT – The one at the airport? Awesome! The Bud Light ones (Too Light, Too Heavy) were fantastic, too.

Yeah, they were great, too.
I forget to mention the one thing that really stood out to me and made me smile: Bobby Clarke’s smile. It was nice to see just how happy and tickled he was to be at the event and to be the honorary captain.

Classic indeed! That was actually worth the wait, and I’m glad the B’s bucked the trend of the home team losing these Winter Classic games going back to that outdoor game in Edmonton about six or seven years ago.

But I thought Sully won the bet??? There’s no way a prize for winning a bet would be a Keith Acton jersey.

Thanks Wyatt, you’re a great sport…. Oh, and you’re gonna love Pete Laviolette.
He’s a Norwood guy too.

I ain’t a hockey fan, but I could probably be influenced if they’d get some pretty hot cheerleaders out there.

RT – Would have been better if he and Bobby Orr threw down.
Fenway_Nation – The winners of the last two made it to the Stanley Cup Finals the same year. Both lost, but . . .
Randal – The signatures make it a prize. None of them are Keith’s. Of course, he’s coaching in Toronto, so I like them now, too.
Sully – No problemo. Should be sent out this week.
Watuschski – Most teams do.

Having Clarke and Orr there put the event over the top.
I love the concept of the Winter Classic but it is limited.
You can’t drop a rink into a football stadium (too wide) and most cities don’t have an outdoor ice rink with seats for 20,000-40,000 spectators.
The only option is a baseball park which makes for less-then-optimal viewing if you are there live.
I also think that the visiting teams for the Winter Classics be ones that would not ever be able to host one, like the Kings or the Panthers.
