JoePa Released From The Hospital
By Wyatt Earp | August 10, 2011
Full disclosure: I despise Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. His fans claim he is “everything good about college football” while they watch him run up the score on weak teams like Indiana State. The 84-year old shouldn’t be allowed to watch college football, let alone coach it.
The best argument for that can be found in this story:
Penn State’s legendary football coach Joe Paterno was released from the hospital on Tuesday. Paterno was hospitalized on Sunday after he was blindsided by a player on the practice field. He hurt his shoulder and hip, but doctors say he doesn’t need surgery.
This is Paterno’s 46th season as head coach.
Ya gotta love the full-blown Homerism from NBC10. They actually blame the 20-something college athlete for “blindsiding” an 84-year old borderline-senile coach. I guess that’s their version of “JoePa wandered onto the field to yell at a cloud when he found himself in the middle of an active drill.”
Hey Grampa, it’s enough. Get control of your massive ego and retire already.

46 years!!11!!! There’s been coaches who’ve joined Penn State, spent their entire career their and retired waiting for a turn at the big job.
Doesn’t the man want to travel or see his grandkids or have hobbies? He’s like a politician, you have to break his fingers to make him let go of the desk and then drag him out of office.

Fozzy – Exactly. And make no mistake; he hasn’t really been “coaching” this team for a while now. He’s a figurehead, sole bent on staying on long enough to make his win total record untouchable. What an ego.

Ya mean like Pete Rose was when he was the Reds player/manager chasing the all time hit record ?

Look at the bright side, at least he doesn’t send himself in at QB at opportune times to glom the all time college TD record.

Maybe he’ll end up sharing a rubber room with Woody…..

As an Iowa fan, I was never fond of Penn State. Paterno wasn’t hitting on cylinders when they joined the Big Ten in 1990. I honestly think they should throw a blanket over him, wheel him out to field and use him as a potted plant.

I can’t stand the man either, but try saying anything around the rabid Penn State fans. He’s practically a god to them!
*sigh* And Tressel was forced out….

JoePa has Bear Bryant syndrome. Remember that Bear Bryant died only a few months after Alabama forced him to retire. JoePa clearly fears the same thing… that’s why he’s stayed on as long as he has. I’m a PSU fan myself, and I think this is his last season. He will have passed the legendary Amos Alonzo Stagg as the oldest man to head a major college football program by season’s end.
I just hope they don’t give his son the job when Joe does go.

bob (either orr) is on to something.
After he had the hip surgery a few years back, I thought sure Joe would call it quits (or his wife would put an end to his career). Now it seems like he’s afraid to retire. That makes me think this is a one dimensional person here. Football or nothing. He’s got no hobbies or outside interests to fall back on.
Would not surprise me to hear he 1) dies on the field or 2) dies within months of retiring.
As for those PSU fans who idolize the guy, fine. He’s had a great run and has displayed admirable loyalty. But he needs to step down for the good of the team and his family.

JT – I hear Joe has a terrific arm!
Richard – Because I don’t drink enough?
MeToo – Prop him up and use him as the goal post.
GroovyVic – Eh, they find his dementia “endearing.”
Dr. Evil – Or squashed by the Ball State mascot.
Bob – Or his idiot brother. Worse than Chris Wheeler when it comes to broadcasting.
Joated – And again, when was the last time he really coached the time?

His brother passed quite a few years ago now. So I don’t think you’d have to worry about that.

Well, I was thinking of the suspect, but okay…
